The Republic of Palau, traditionally known as Belau, is a sovereign island nation located in the Micronesian subregion of Oceania. Comprising approximately 340 islands, atolls, and islets, Palau is a Small Island Developing State 

whose identity, culture, and future are deeply rooted in the ocean. 

It is home to a population of 18,000 people. 

Palau regained its independence on October 1st 1994 and became a Member State of the United Nations on 15 December 1994. Today, The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Palau to the United Nations, based in New York, represents Palau in its engagement with the United Nations system and the wider international community. The Mission is currently led by
